Since my last post, we spent 2 amazing days in my favorite national parks in Mongolia: Khustai and Terelj. For anyone traveling to Mongolia, these are 2 parks not to miss and they are both relatively close to UB. Khustai is the home to the Przewalski’s wild horses – beautiful creatures more related to prehistoric horses than to the domestic horse. They even have a different number of chromosomes. Mongolia is the only place they live freely. We were also able to see foxes and a heard of elk that I have not seen before.
Then comes Terelj with its beautiful landscapes and in full fall colors. We were able to ride on a horse through the park.
Along the way we stopped at a Mongolian Cultural show and the infamous Chingis Khan statue. Then off to UB, some last minute shopping and on to the airport. All the flights went without a hitch and I even got some sleep!
I am so thankful to the entire team joining us on the trip. A delightful group to travel with and all worked really hard at the hospital. But our work is not finished. We will each prepare a summary of recommendations for our Mongolian colleagues and plan to continue our relationships on a regular basis.
Time to start planning next year’s visit!
