Follow Our Journey

Day 5: Friday

The time at NCMCH came to an end Friday, but our work is far from being complete. I believe Dr Hildebrandt and I made an impact that will ultimately benefit the children of Mongolia.  We saw 15 patients during the week we were at NCMCH, and five we saw more than once, mainly for follow-up of labs.  I greatly appreciate being involved in their care.

During the week we provided several prepared and impromptu talks regarding growth, adrenal dysfunction, normal pituitary function and testing, diabetes, and more.  It is nice when the residents, fellow, and endocrinologists are engaged during these talks – much easier to learn in that setting.

Dr Sandler, Dr Shenoy and I each gave a talk for their pediatric conference on Friday. My talk covered disorders of water balance, but there was hardly enough time to discuss everything.

We’ve identified a number of ways we can continue the work we started, including developing clinical pathways using published guidelines and reviewing standards of care for diabetes education and ongoing management.  I hope Dr Davaa and Dr Batsukh will continue to be engaged in discussions throughout the next 12 months until we return to UB.  We can look ahead to the future with a positive lens as we all strive to continue to improve the care provided at NCMCH.
